Andrew Bain is a horn player and the principal horn of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He is listed as soloist in Strauss's Horn Concerto No. 2 in Los Angeles in January 2027, on a program led by Daniel Harding.

What to listen for

The horn is a coiled brass instrument with a rounded, glowing tone, and Strauss's second concerto lets it sing, leap and joke across three connected movements. Listen for the long, easy-sounding melodies in the slow middle and for the playful, galloping finale. As a principal player he is also the voice you hear in the orchestra's big horn solos.
