Vanessa Moss

Vanessa Moss is a violinist and concertmaster based in the Pacific Northwest, currently leading the Walla Walla Symphony and the Mid-Columbia Symphony from the concertmaster chair. She also performs regularly with the Northwest Sinfonietta and Spokane Symphony, co-founded the Glass House String Quartet in Seattle, and directs Sempre Chamber Music. She has previously performed Max Richter's Recomposed version of Vivaldi's Four Seasons, the same territory as her upcoming Wenatchee Valley Symphony solo date.

Moss has already performed Max Richter's reworking of Vivaldi's Four Seasons, the piece that anchors this Wenatchee Valley Symphony program, so listeners can expect real familiarity with its particular demands: Richter keeps Vivaldi's outline recognizable while looping and slowing sections into something closer to ambient music, which asks a soloist to hold a steady, almost minimalist pulse rather than the Baroque snap of the original. As a working concertmaster, she is also used to shaping a string section's sound from the front chair, so expect a soloist tuned to blending with the orchestra rather than pulling against it, and a performance that leans into the piece's meditative, slowly shifting textures over flashy virtuosity.

Moss has served as concertmaster of the Walla Walla Symphony Orchestra since 2022 and of the Mid-Columbia Symphony since 2019, and performs regularly with the Northwest Sinfonietta and Spokane Symphony. She is a founding member of the Seattle-based Glass House String Quartet and serves as artistic director of Sempre Chamber Music. She also teaches, running a private violin studio in Ellensburg, Washington, and has appeared in touring productions with Andrea Bocelli and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
