Program

  1. Antonín Dvořák Carnival Overture, Op. 92 from Carnival, Op. 92
  2. Jennifer Higdon Cello Concerto
  3. Edward Elgar Enigma Variations, Op. 36

Artists

Running time: about 1 h (estimate from the works' usual timings; not every piece has one)

Worth the drive: Elgar's set of orchestral variations portrays fourteen friends (and himself) through musical caricature, anchored by the beloved slow movement "Nimrod." The piece opens with a wistful, halting theme in G minor, quiet and searching, that will return transformed in each variation. More about Edward Elgar's Enigma Variations, Op. 36 →

About this concert

Eric Garcia conducts Dvořák's Carnival Overture with Youth Orchestra seniors, Higdon's cello concerto with Julian Schwartz, and Elgar's Enigma Variations.
