In short

Kevin Day, born in 1996, is an American composer who writes for orchestra, wind band and chamber groups. Still in his twenties, he has gained wide attention for lively music that borrows from jazz and from popular styles. Charlotte Symphony is scheduled to play his piece Neon in November 2026.

What the music sounds like

Day's music is energetic and colorful. Expect syncopated rhythms, which are beats placed off the expected pulse, snappy brass and percussion, and melodies that feel close to jazz and pop. His pieces tend to be short and upbeat, starting at full speed and often ending with a bang. We could not confirm the details of Neon specifically, so this describes his style in general.
